Summary
Discover Natural Beauty. Cumberland Caverns is Tennessee's largest show cave and a U.S. National Natural Landmark. The daily scenic walking tour features waterfalls, gleaming pools, and a historic 1812 saltpeter mine. Every tour also is highlighted by the original underground pageant of light and sound, "God of the Mountain," an awe-inspiring retelling of the creation. Discover Adventure on one of our daytime or overnight Spelunking Adventure Trips. First-time spelunkers will get a taste of the untamed-underground and experienced cavers will be impressed by the challenges. Tight squeezes, cave crawling, and ladders-in-the-caverns will make this an adventure you will be able to brag about.

Cumberland Caverns displays some of the largest underground rooms and most spectacular formations in America. The daily scenic walking tour is offered year-round, from 9:00 to 5:00. Underground Adventure is waiting for you. Cumberland Caverns is proud to offer three Spelunking Adventure Trips. Groups from 10 to 250 can discover what caving is all about. Every step and each turn is a new discovery for you. With nothing but a flashlight and your own determination, you will proudly say: "I came, I caved, I conquered!"

This tour takes about an hour and a half and is 1.5 miles of walking. It includes such things as Moby Dick, the Volcano Room, the Three Chessmen and the Pipe Organ. There are steps and slopes on this tour and for this reason the tour is considered mildly strenuous. Since its original discovery in 1810, many visitors have rediscovered the Cumberland Caverns for themselves. It’s a great vacation stop or day-trip destination. Come discover the history, beauty, and "Wow!" of Cumberland Caverns.

Cumberland Caverns is the longest cave in Tennessee and in Eastern America. "God of the Mountain" an original underground pageant of light and sound, is shown on every tour. A leading light in the development of the cave was Roy Davis, who developed the lighting in this cave and about 30 other US show caves. The Ten Acre Room is a corridor 20m wide and over 420m long where early explorers camped while exploring deeper into the cave. Other features include the Mountain Room, a huge unsupported ceiling 64m wide and more than 150m long with some spectacular speleothems, which are still growing.
